With our new Souvignier Gris & Floréal cuvée, Stélaïa invites you to discover two grape varieties that are still little-known but hold great promise for the future of viticulture.

Two resistant varieties, two stories

Floréal originated in France as part of the ResDur research program led by INRAE. Added to the official catalogue in 2018, this white grape variety was selected for its resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew—two of the most common grapevine diseases.

Souvignier Gris, meanwhile, comes to us from Germany. Recognizable by the pinkish-grey hue of its berries, it also boasts strong natural resistance to major grapevine diseases.

These varieties—known as “resistant varieties”—allow for a significant reduction in vineyard treatments. This innovation is particularly exciting as we envision a form of viticulture that is increasingly respectful of the environment.

Innovation, but above all, pleasure

Because beyond the technical aspects, there is, first and foremost… the wine itself!

For this new 2025 IGP Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert cuvée, we chose to blend 52% Floréal with 48% Souvignier Gris.

The result? An expressive, rich white wine featuring lovely fruity notes—particularly pineapple and peach—complemented by freshness, tension, and minerality.

A unique cuvée demonstrating that the pursuit of new viticultural practices and the pleasure of tasting can go hand in hand.

With this cuvée, Stélaïa continues to explore a vital question: how can we keep producing quality wines while evolving our practices?

Floréal and Souvignier Gris provide part of the answer. They represent a new generation of grape varieties, offering opportunities to experiment, innovate, and gradually guide the evolution of our vineyards.
